REMOTE-SENSING ACTIVITY

Yellowstone Land Cover -(Continued)

Procedure:

Below are three types of maps to use for this land cover mapping activity: land cover map, satellite image (map), and a topographical map. Examine all three and compare how land cover information is represented on each map.

Once you are familiar with the maps, continue to the next page. There you will find a satellite image of the Old Faithful geyser area before the fires of 1988. Create a land cover map of the area.

Do you need to visit any of the areas to collect information from the ground?

Provide a final report containing your land cover map with a legend and an explanation on how you decided what the land cover features were before the 1988 fires.
